Papers of Arthur Winter

Papers compiled by the athlete and athletics commentator Arthur Winter. The collection comprises a significant amount of material relating to Polytechnic Harriers including athletics programmes, club histories and ephemera. The collection includes an extensive volume of photographic slides, many created by professional photographers, and many depicting the Polytechnic Marathon which was held annually during June. There are also a small numbers of medals including two awarded to Arthur Winter at events staged in 1927.

Majority of material dates from early 20th century to 1983. CD listening copies of audio cassette tapes were produced during 2016.

Arthur E. H. Winter was was involved with Polytechnic Harriers for most of his life. Internal evidence indicates that he took part in 20 mile races held during the 1920s and organised by the Road Walking Association and the British Empire Cancer Campaign. He died in November 1990 leaving a widow, Mabel.
