Administrative / Biographical History

N. L. Sheppard was born in Kinsale, Ireland where her father was then stationed. She grew up in Somerset and Exeter. Her working life was spent in the Civil Service. She was an expert shorthand reporter and served on the British staff of several conferences in that capacity. These conferences included the Genoa International Economic Conference of 1921, and the London Naval Conference of 1930. She also worked on the Palestine commissions of the 1930s and the Ceylon Commission of 1944. She was awarded the MBE in 1946. She retired from the Treasury in 1961.
