Scope and Content

Deeds and papers of the late Mrs John Hautenville Cope. This is an artificial collection and there is no apparent connection between many of the documents. There are, however, three main groupings:

  • Deeds and family papers of the Ford and Goodenough families
  • Papers relating to the Cope family
  • Title deeds, etc., relating to the estates of the Duke of Marlborough. The presence of this last group of papers is difficult to explain but it may be noted that a Miss Cope received a legacy of 50 from Susan Dowager Duchess of Marlborough, who died in 1841

Administrative / Biographical History

J.H. Cope was married to Emma Elizabeth Thoyts, whose mother was Anne, eldest daughter of Sir Richard Puleston 2nd bart., of Emral (co. Flint).
