Baptist Register of Salem Congregational Chapel, Llanbedrycennin

Scope and Content

Baptismal register, 1812-1896 with details of burials, 1851-1859 and financial matters, 1853-1860.

Administrative / Biographical History

The original Salem Chapel, built in 1808, stood in a remote and inaccessible area of the Conwy Valley, around half a mile away from the present one. The cause was not strong in the early years and in 1819 it was recorded that there were only 18 members.

Around 1850 the chapel was extended and renovated but soon after it was decided that a new chapel should be built in a more convenient place. The new chapel, with seating for 400, was opened in May 1872.
