Administrative / Biographical History
Sir Garnet Wilson was born on 24 March 1885 in Newport, Fife. He was educated locally and in Dundee. He was a member of Newport Town Council, 1919-1929, and of Dundee Town Council, 1929-1935 and 1937-1940. He was Lord Provost of Dundee from 1940 to 1946. He was interested in vocational training, and was President of University College Dundee from 1946 to 1954. His other posts included being chairman of Glenrothes Development Corporation from 1952 to 1960. He was knighted in 1944. He died in 1973.
