George Hugo Findlay: correspondence, notes and transcripts concerning the history of Stapleford, Cambridgeshire

George Hugo Findlay was born in Leeds on 16 February 1888, and educated at Repton and Oriel College, Oxford. He was a Senior Resident in the Nigeria Colonial Administrative Service from 1911 until 1937, when he retired and was awarded a CMG. In 1952 he was appointed first County Archivist of Huntingdonshire, a post that he held for ten years. He compiled a Guide to the Huntingdonshire Record Office (1958), and also wrote a study of the hymns of Charles Wesley, Christ's standard bearer (1956). He was President of the Cambridge Antiquarian Society for 1960-61, and died on 25 July 1966.

The papers reflect G.H. Findlay's interest in the history of Stapleford, the village south of Cambridge where he and his wife lived.
