Scope and Content

Whereas the Court was informed that there was a rent due to the Crown from the rectory of Whittlesford granted by Queen Elizabeth to Dudley Askam, since whose death the rent was in arrear, and Thomas Ventris, feefarmer of the rectory, had paid a certain proportion; and that Thomas Ventris had purchased the rectory of Robert Symonds (sic) late of Whittlesford and Robert Miller (sic) of Pudsey, Yorkshire, in whose time the arrears accumulated; the Court orders that Thomas Ventris shall pay the remainder and have the aid of the Court in recovery. On the back is a receipt for the sum mentioned paid by Thomas Ventris signed by Christopher Turnor, 'messinger of the Courte'.
