Correspondence of George Edward Moore, Sir Ralph Lewis Wedgwood and Iris Lady Wedgwood

Scope and Content

This collection documents the long friendship of the philosopher G. E. Moore and the railway administrator Sir R. L. Wedgwood and his wife Iris Lady Wedgwood. George Moore and Ralph Wedgwood were contemporaries as undergraduates at Trinity College, Cambridge, in the mid-1890s, and their friendship continued until Wedgwood's death in 1956. The principal contents of the collection are two sets of letters, Moore to Wedgwood and Wedgwood to Moore, and another set to Moore from Iris Wedwood, who married Ralph in 1906. Moore and Ralph Wedgwood were members of the Cambridge Conversazione Society, and there is also a group of seven papers presented to the society by Wedgwood, together with photographs and miscellaneous items
