T. E. Lawrence Letters

Scope and Content

Written between 16 June 1927 and 5 April 1935, the letters represent Lawrence's part of a correspondence with Ede that initially focussed on Lawrence's writings. They also provide insight to his (as Thomas Edward Shaw) service in the ranks, 1922 - 1935, particularly his work with motor launches. Ede (b. 1895 d. 1990) a former curator at the Tate gallery, acquired much of the estate of Sophie Brzeska, the partner of sculptor Henri Gaudier-Brzeska. Later he wrote two books about the couple, the writing of which was the subject of several of the letters in this collection.
