Oxford Barbers' Company Records

Records of the Company of Barbers, including charters, order books, certificates of admission, quarterage and fine books, account books, rolls of apprentices, bonds, and alphabetical lists of matriculations in the University of Oxford.

The Company of Barbers of the University of Oxford is first noted in the 14th century, but its first charter is an Act of Convocation dated 10 November 1675, and their first Orders are dated 18 November 1675. All members were matriculated members of the University of Oxford. Its government was entrusted to a Master and Wardens. The Company was dissolved in 1859.

The records were purchased 13 June 1890 from S.P. Spiers.

At the dissolution of the Company in 1859 the records probably remained in the possession of the last Master, R.J. Spiers.
