Scope and Content

Pursuant to various recited conveyances and agreements, and in consideration of #1,250, George Alfred Carthew of East Dereham, Norfolk, solicitor, George Taylor of Mattishall, Norfolk, surgeon, and Revd William Grigson, late rector of Whinbergh but now of Norwich reconvey to William Nix of Somersham, Hunts, gent, 68+ acres 'by ancient estimation' of reclaimed land and 40 acres similarly measured in Witcham, both parcels lying in Hale Fen, Coveney, part of Bedford Level. William Nix had mortgaged the property to the ancestors in law of Carthew, Taylor and Grigson in 1829 for #2,000 (Doc 1758), and had paid #750 in part settlement in March 1873. 2 pages, signed and sealed by Carthew, Taylor and Grigson, witnessed by Nathaniel ?Girling, solicitor of East Dereham, receipt on verso, same date and similarly signed, duty stamp. The form of indenture was supplied by Hooper and Son of Ludgate Hill, London. Endorsed as entered in the Bedford Level Register on 6 Jan 1900.
