The collection contains a small amount of material relating to the teaching of nursing at the University of Nottingham during the time that Nursing came under the remit of the Medical School.
The archive includes records of the governance of the undergraduate degree course in Nursing, from the beginning of the course in 1990 until 1996 and ephemeral printed material including newspaper clippings, photographs and programmes for events.
The Nottingham School of Nursing has its origins in the Nursing Studies Unit which opened at Nottingham in the 1970s. In 1989 a Department of Nursing was established at the University as part of the Medical School, allowing students to study nursing as a degree subject. The first twenty students for the new degree entered the department in October 1990. With the creation of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Nursing became a separate school. As of 2014 the Division of Nursing sits in the School of Health Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Records have been grouped by function then arranged in series within those groupings.
The majority of the collection is accessible to all registered readers but records containing information on the academic careers of individual students or staff members are closed to general access for a period of up to 100 years from date of creation.
