Transcripts of Papers of John Ruskin

Transcripts of letters and papers of John Ruskin, mainly typescript, with some manuscript notes, made for E.T. Cook and A.D.O. Wedderburn, editors of The works of Ruskin (London & New York, 1903-12). The transcripts were made while the papers were in the possession of the Severn family at Brantwood; many of them are not included in the Works. The transcripts include:  

• Letters to various correspondents, with copies of some letters to Ruskin, 1837-88, n.d.
• Letters to Ruskin from Thomas Carlyle, 1851-73
• Diaries, including copies of sketches, 1835-85
• Various writings, including fragmentary drafts and notes, 1830-88, n.d.
• Cuttings from newspapers, periodicals, sale catalogues etc. relating to Ruskin

Sir Edward Tyas Cook (1857-1919) was a journalist (details are given in the Dictionary of National Biography). Alexander Dundas Ogilvy Wedderburn. John Ruskin (1819-1900) was an author, artist and social reformer (details are given in the Dictionary of National Biography).

The transcripts were given to the Library by A.D.O. Wedderburn in 1936.
