Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Andrew Burn-Murdoch was an Edinburgh solicitor whose hobby was photography, particularly the taking of stereoscopic slides. He pioneered stereoscopy with Lumire plates and was a member of L'Association de Lumire in 1911.
Arrangement
Records are arranged chronologically within series. The cataloguing of the photographic material was aided by the meticulous notes of Alexander Burn-Murdoch himself, whose notebooks record the day, exposure, location and the outcome of the photograph itself. A numbered sequence relates from these notebooks to the slides and this has been kept for simplifying the cataloguing process.
