Typescript of A History of the Parish of Hawarden

Scope and Content

Comprises a copy of A History of the Parish of Hawardenin four bound typescript volumes. Subjects include: a history of the parish church, district churches, church wardens, festivals, Hawarden Grammar and other schools, the Manor, Hawarden Castle, and prominent Hawarden families including the Glynnes, Gladstones and the Prescotts of Ewloe.

Administrative / Biographical History

A History of the Parish of Hawarden (1945) was written by W. Bell Jones who was clerk of the Flintshire parish from 1943 to 1945. According to his son, H. E. Jones, who has written a note at the back of the final volume, the author was unable to complete the work because of failing eyesight and ill health.

Material is arranged in chronological order and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts .
