Scope and Content

Joseph Davis, Clerk in Holy Orders, Bottisham, bequeathers £100 to his brother, Samuel Davis, of Hale, Lancs., the residue of his estate to his wife, Ann Davis, for her life-time, and at her death £100 to his nephew John Davis, of Preston-upon-the-hill, Cheshire, £100 to his nephew Joseph Davis of Liverpool, Lancs., £100 to his niece, Mary Hayes, of Preston-upon-the-hill, Cheshire, these 3 being children of his late brother, John Davis, and £100 to his nephew, William Davis, of London, son of his late brother, William Davis. If any of these should die before his wife, the share of the parent to be divided among the children. If on Ann's death there is not enough money to pay the legacies (exclusive of the money due to her by her marriagebond) the legacies to be abated in equal proportion. And lastly, his brother, Samuel Davis, is to receive another £100 on Ann's death. Samuel and Ann to be executors of his will. Signed Joseph Davis. Witnesses: Benjamin Kettle, George Heffer, and Stephen Osbourn.
