Papers relating to the retirement of James Duff in 1934 as a lecturer in Classics for Girton, including presentation, menu at retirement dinner, poem etc.

Administrative / Biographical History

James Duff was educated at Fettes and Trinity College, Cambridge where he read Classics 1878-82 (BA 1882, MA 1885), becoming a Fellow of Trinity in 1883. He was an eminent Latinist, a translator of the Loeb Lucan, as well as translating Russian authors, and an editor of many school texts. He was also a College Lecturer in Classics and taught language to Girton and Newnham students for over fifty years.
