Administrative / Biographical History

Alison Murray Oliver was born on 30 October 1905 in Leith. She was educated at Broughton Secondary School, Edinburgh, and then studied at Edinburgh University, graduating with the degree of MA (Hons) in English in 1928. In 1929 she joined the staff of Edinburgh Public Libraries where she would become Chief Classifier and was in charge of the general Subject Index. After 1945 she was in charge of the Scottish Collection and later became Sub-Librarian in the Reference Library.

Alison Murray Oliver died on 11 August 1985.
