A file of correspondence and papers relating to the letting of Penrhyn Castle, 1907-1908.

Administrative / Biographical History

Penrhyn Castle, situated outside the city of Bangor, Caernarfonshire is described amongst these documents as a Famous castle in extensive Park, numerous Private Sitting Rooms, and Public Reception Rooms, between 60 and 70 Bedrooms and Dressing Rooms, several Bath Rooms, Stabling for about 32 Horses - Cottages, Shooting, Fishing, Yachting, Sea Bathing, Golfing etc.. A London Firm of Auctioneers was asked to assist in the letting of Penrhyn Castle in 1907. The rent required was £5,000 per annum for a term of 5 years.

In 1952, Penrhyn Castle and a substantial portion of the Penrhyn Estate were accepted by the Treasury in lieu of death duties, and vested in the National Trust.
