Canterbury Congregational / United Reformed Church

Scope and Content

This collection of records comprises several different Canterbury nonconformist churches, including the Independents, St Andrew's United Reformed Church, the Presbyterians, the Congregational Union and the Churches of Christ. The records themselves relate to church meetings, the Committee of the Church Meeting, the Deacons, the Trustees, the Sunday School, and affiliated organisations.

Administrative / Biographical History

The United Reformed Church came into being in 1972 as a result of a union between the Presbyterian Church of England, the Congregational Union and the Churches of Christ. Previously the Presbyterians and the Congregationalists had in some years worshipped together and in others worshipped apart.
