Bound paper periodicals.

Administrative / Biographical History

The periodicals of the co-operative movement contain information on the development of co-operative ideas with in the labour movement. Many of them are an invaluable research tool providing articles on subjects as varied as interior design to the plight of child labourers. The periodicals are national and international, in subject and publishing.

The collection also includes a complete run of The Co-operative News, the newspaper of the co-operative movement. This publication contains articles on current affairs, developments in the co-operative movement (both national and international) and events within societies. Other titles reflect the wealth of research on the co-operative movement, such as the still published Journal for Co-operative Studies.

The wider labour movement and the development thereof is covered in titles such as The Clarion. Also included in the collection are titles published by prominant individuals in the labour and co-operative movement, such as Robert Owen's Journal. Through these one can see what issues concerned indivduals and their inner circle. Groups associated with the co-operative and labour movements were also prolific publishers for example, the Christian Socialist's published journals covering a wide range of topics.

The publications high light issues and debates that were of import at the time of publication and aid the researcher to see trends and developments.
