Scope and Content

Recorded interviews with individuals affected by the Aberfan disaster 1966, including teachers, parents of victims and other individuals. The study includes a recording of The Aberfan Thank You Show 1967 (c) a variety show performed by the surviving children of Pantglas Junior School. Therecordings were made in 1986 and 1967 (c) but they cover the period 1960-1986 insubject matter.

Administrative / Biographical History

In 1966 a coal waste tip slid down a mountainside destroying a farmhouse and engulfing Pantglas Junior School and about 20 houses in the village of Aberfan (Aber-fan) in South Wales. 144 people were killed, 116 of them children.

The study concentrates on the events and emotions following the disaster at the school. The study was part of a BBC documentary commemorating the 20th anniversary of the disaster.
