Scope and Content

A collection of treatises, published and unpublished, extracts, notes, drats and verses, many relating to the University of Cambridge. Includes drafts of the following works by Gooch: 'Liber Cantabrigienses', unpublished biographical notes on officials and students of the University of Cambridge; 'The British Youths' Familiar History of the Town and University of Cambridge', unpublished; 'America and the Americans', unpublished, with 15 watercolour sketches; 'Cantabrigia', newspaper cuttings and notes re University personalities, 1837-9; 'Facetiae Cantabrigienses', published 1825 and 1836; 'The Banquet of Humour', unpublished; 'Memoirs Miscellaneous', unpublished; 'The British eccentric biographer', unpublished; 'Elegiac stanzas addressed to Lady Heathcote', printed in Redemption (1832), pp. 137-8. Miscellaneous poetry. Also includes (at 5, fo. 266) copies of St John's College examination papers, 1823.
