Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Yorkshire Beekeepers Association (YBKA) was founded on 22 July 1882 as an affiliate of The British Beekeepers Association (founded 1874). At its foundation it had 66 members, rising to 83 within the first year.
It was quickly realised that Yorkshire was too large a county to have only one beekeeping body and the decision was taken to create smaller local branches of the main YBKA. There are presently 22 branches, including Beverley, Leeds, York, Scarborough, Darlington, Bradford, Sheffield and Doncaster.
The Association is governed by an elected council and holds an annual convention for its members, as well as producing a monthly newsletter. It also holds an Annual Honey Show at which the Horsman Cup is presented by the Association for the best exhibit of Light Honey.

Records are open to the public, subject to the overriding provisions of relevant legislation, including data protection laws. 24 hours' notice is required to access photographic material.

The archive was deposited at the Borthwick Institute in 2013.
