Administrative / Biographical History
In 1704 Edward Irby, M.P. for Boston in Lincolnshire, was made 1st Baronet. His only son, William Irby, born in 1706, became the 2nd Baronet, and 1st Baron Boston, a title acquired in 1761. The family seats were, Hedsor in Bourne End, Bucks and Lligwy in Moelfre, Anglesey.

The house known as Porthamel in Llanidan parish was originally built in the mid 16th century but altered extensively in the 19th century.
