Second Investors' Mortgage Security Co Ltd was incorporated as a limited liability company in 1914  in Edinburgh, Scotland, with George Dunlop as its first chairman. Shares were sold with many automatically being offered to shareholders in the company's sister company, the Investors' Mortgage Security Co Ltd , investment trust, Edinburgh. The Second Investors' Mortgage Security Co Ltd invested its member's money in stocks, shares and debentures and acted as an investment trust. The investment side of the business was managed by Ivory & Sime Ltd , investment trust managers, Edinburgh, with who they shared their registered office.

The company invested in the American markets, especially railroads and power companies, and also invested in British stocks and shares. In 1965  , the company entered into voluntary liquidation at which point many of its assets and funds were transferred to the sister company, Investors' Mortgage Security Co Ltd .
