The collection consists of account books, ledgers, bills, in which the names of the patients which Dr Williams called upon are listed. It appears that he had two agents which were responsible for collecting debts on his behalf, O.R. Pugh and Robert Roberts. The patients are grouped into geographical areas such as Llyn, Pwllheli, Llangybi, Llanarmon, Llanllyfni, Clynnog, Llanhaiarn, Ffestiniog, Rhoslan, Garn, Cricieth, Llanystumdwy, Pentrefelin and Porthmadog, all in Caernarfonshire.The four items which date from 1881 to 1884 belong to the successor of Dr Williams, Dr Roberts, consist of prescription books and details regarding the deaths of various patients.

Administrative / Biographical History
Dr John Williams of Talarfor, Cricieth, Caernarfonshire was a country doctor for about 60 years. Better known as Dr Williams, Plas Hen or Dr Williams, Ty Newydd, Llanystumdwy, he was admired by others of the same profession throughout Ceredigion Bay. It is believed that there was no other registered doctor between Dolgellau and Cricieth when he began working in the area.
He was the son of a small-holder from Llwyngwril, Merionethshire. He never married and died on 1 March 1875. His kindness and good nature was well known. The area which he covered as a doctor was very vast, as can be seen from his account books.
Dr John Roberts was for a period the business partner of Dr John Williams, and continued work at the practice after Dr Williams's death in 1875.
Arrangement
The papers of Dr John Williams are incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts. They have been catalogued in two groups, probably since they were received by the Department at different times.
