Includes the following: grant from Thomas Knovile of London to Thomas Hille of a tenement on the Thames in Petty Wales (now Tower Hill), London, for a period of 21 years (1439); grant from Elizabeth, widow of William Vavasour of Thornton on the Hill, Yorks, to Thomas Darell, her heir, Will. Ward, Simon Palmer, Christopher Helton, Richard Danby (1489); Gift imperpetuum from yeoman Thomas Meade of Thaxted to Thomas Smyth of Horham Hall, Essex, of the quiet possession of real properties. Highly abbreviated. Signed as witnessed by John Br[…]ne, Christopher Constable, and A. Henry Jobbe (1639); contractual deed of sale; Robert Jenner of Widhill in Wiltshire agrees to purchase the lands and possessions of ‘the late Archbishops and Bishops’ (including the late Bishop of Salisbury) from the state for one thousand ninety five pounds. The lands include ‘the Lordshipp or Mannor of Marston Meysey’ and all accompanying rights. Signed as witnessed by the Lords and Commons of Parliament, including Sir John Wollaston and numerous others (1647); bond, John Meade of Thaxted to William LeHunt of Grays Inn & Thomas Midlemoore of West Greensteet (1649); lease and release, three separate documents relating to the lease and release between John Allen of Bicester (and his wife Margerett) to James Ward of Derby and Thomas Ward of Staple Inn, London (1660); Letter discussing the Second Anglo-Dutch War, including mention of military tactics (movements of horses and footmen into Flanders). Content treats the attitudes of Louis XIV of France and Charles II of England towards the continuing war between England and Holland. Additional content refers to the execution of one Lauxille, as well as the King of Spain being denied the Order of the Golden Fleece (Breuet de la Toison d’Or) by the Comte de Lesslé. Names mentioned include Le Comte d’Estrade (Godefroi, the French ambassador in Holland), Thomas Howard (Comte Hawart d’Arundel) and his brother (Sir Henry Howard), the King of England (Charles II), the King of France (Louis XIV), the Spanish Marquis de la Fuente, one Lauxille, the Comte de Lesslé, and the King of Spain (Philip IV). Letter is addressed Mons. Comminges (bottom left of reverse), the French ambassador to England (1662-65), and signed Sieur Nicolas Bretel de Grémonville, former French ambassador to Vienna (1665); indenture granting for a period of one year possession of numerous castles, baronies, manors, lordships, mossnages, lands, tenements, and hereditaments by Charles, Earl of Carlisle, and Lady Anne, Countess of Carlisle, to Edward, Viscount Morpeth (son and heir apparent of Charles), Sir George Downeing (Baronet of Cambridge) and Sir Ralph Delavall, Baronet of Northumberland (1668); military appointment of the ‘Trusty and Well loved Henry Budd’ (also referred to as ‘Reverend’) as Chaplain to the Third Regiment of the Loyal London Volunteer Infantry under ‘Our Trusty and Well loved Lieutenant Colonel John Pooley Kensington (1803); decree appointing Lord Mark Antony Spinola governor of Finaria (1574); decree concerning return of Count Felix to Finaria (1575).
