Scope and Content

One postcard print (original photograph) 129 x 80 mm. A group photograph showing Church Missionary Society Staff and Ugandan students. Figures identified on the reverse (by H.B. Thomas, so presumably he is the collector of this print) are: Archdeacon Thomas Richard Buckley (c. 1859-1936), Bishop John Jamieson Willis (1872-1954), Revd. Ernest Millar (1868-1917) see also Y3045L, Mrs. Rowling (?wife of Frank Rowling ( ? - 1949), Revd. Herbert Thomas, Candy Weatherhead (c. 1875-1930), Revd. George G. Garrett, Mrs. Garrett and Edward Seabrooke Daniell (c. 1879-1952). This conference, which took place at Budo in March 1915, was held in order to determine a policy for the training of teachers in Uganda and resulted in King's College, Budo retaining its elite status: shortly afterwards five grades of teacher were established by the Board of Education, with those at the top of the scale being termed Budo teachers.
