Administrative / Biographical History

St Jude's School in the Parish of Andreas was in existence as a parochial school owned and run by the Church of England prior to the Education Act of 1872. In 1883 the ownership and running of the school was transferred to the new Board of Education: an island-wide body brought into existence by the 1872 act. From that date until its closure in 1982 the school provided primary-level education as part of the Government-funded state school system.

Custodial History

St. Jude's School closed in 1982; it is likely that these records were transferred to its parent department, the predecessor of the current (2015) Department of Education and Children around this time, where they have remained until transfer to Isle of Man Public Record Office in May 2015.
