Philip Henry Wicksteed 1844 - 1927

Philip Wicksteed was educated at Ruthin Grammar School, University CollegeSchool, University College and Manchester New College. In 1868 he marriedEmily Rebecca the eldest daughter of the Rev Henry Solly (1813 - 1903),social reformer and author of The Condition of the English Working Class:the papers of the Reverend Henry Solly (1990).

He became a Unitarian minister in 1867 and moved to Taunton. In 1870 hemoved to Dukinfield, near Manchester, staying for four years before moving tothe Little Portland Street Chapel in London. He remained here from 1874 -1897.

In addition to his ministry Philip Wicksteed was a University ExtensionLecturer. He held this position from 1887 - 1918 and lectured on Dante,political economy, Wordsworth and Greek tragedy.
