Benjamin Bagnall and Emily Elizabeth Bagnall worked as China Inland Mission missionaries at Paoting Fu, Chihli Province, East China and were killed by Boxer Rebels on 1 Jul 1900, along with their daughter Gladys Emily. The Chinese Government agreed to pay £5476-6-7 to the boys, William Bagnell and Howard Bagnell in compensation for the death of their parents.
The Boxer Rebellion, Boxer Uprising or Yihetuan Movement (1898-1900) (also known as the Righteous Harmony Society Movement) was a movement against Western influence in China. A secret anti-foreign society, the Boxers (Ch'uan), undertook attacks on foreigners from 1899. In 1900 the Boxers occupied Peking (Beijing).
