Administrative / Biographical History

Sir Geoffrey Francis Taylor Colby, CMG (1947) KCMG (1949), was born on the 25 March 1901. He was educated at Charterhouse, and Clare College, Cambridge. He worked in Nigeria as an Administrative Officer (1925); acting Principal Assistant Secretary (1939); Secretary of the Nigeria Supply Board (1942); Director of Supplies (1943); Administrative Secretary (1945), and acting Chief Secretary to the Government and the Governor's Deputy on various occasions (1945-1947). In 1948 he became Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Nyasaland (1948-1956). Sir Colby died on the 22 December 1958.
