Balliol College, Oxford, was founded in 1263 by John de Balliol (d. 1268) and his wife Dervorguilla de Balliol, Lady of Galloway (d. 1290). Most material from the 13th - late 19th centuries and into the 20th is handwritten. Many estate papers, accounts and Governing Body minutes are in Latin until the 18th or 19th century. Some material is very fragile and will not normally be produced for consultation. Transcriptions or facsimiles will be produced wherever possible.
