Administrative / Biographical History

Nadezhda Danilovna Gorodetskaia (1901-85) read for B. Litt and D. Phil degrees at Oxford, where she was also a University Lecturer between 1945 and 1956. She was appointed to the Bowes Chair of Russian at Liverpool University in 1956, and remained there until 1968. Having spent the year following her retirement from Liverpool as a visiting professor at Berkeley, Gorodetskaia settled in Oxford where she continued her research into the life of Princess Zinaida Volkonskaia.
