Papers of the Society for the Relief of Poor Pious Clergymen, 1787-1964. The Society was instituted in 1788 for the relief of country clergy, 'the tenor of whose preaching is according to the doctrinal articles of the Church of England'. Among the founders were the Revd. John Newton, the Revd. William Romaine, and the Revd. Richard Cecil.
