Scope and Content

Notebooks containing the manuscript versions of the poems which appeared in his published collections, including a typescript copy and a proof copy of Sonedau a Thelynegion.

Also, a collection of manuscript poetry, newspaper cuttings, articles, letters and a photograph relating to William Jones, compiled most probably by Rev. E. Wynn Jones of Holyhead or his wife. The majority of the poems have been composed and written by William Jones although a few are in the hand of Mrs. E. Wynn Jones. Amongst the other poets are, T. H. Parry-Williams, Walter Pater, I. E. Flecker, and James Evans.

Administrative / Biographical History

William Jones, poet, was born in Trefriw, Caernarfonshire in 1896. He studied at the University College of North Wales and became a Congregational minister before changing denomination and joining the Calvinistic Methodists. He lived at 14 Church Street, Tremadog, Caernarfonshire and died in 1961.

He published two collections of poetry, Adar Rhiannon a Cherddi Eraill in 1947 and Sonedau a Thelynegion in 1950. As a poet and a person, he has been compared to R. Williams-Parry, who in fact was a great friend of his.
