Administrative / Biographical History

William Rowlands (Gwilym Lleyn; 1802-1865), Wesleyan minister and bibliographer, was born at Bryncroes, near Aberdaron on the Lleyn peninsula in Gwynedd. In 1834 he married Anne Andrews (born ?1806). They had eight children, Jane (?1835-1876), twins John Andrew (1836-1854) and William (1836-1870), Ellen (?1840-1873), Thomas (born 1841-1878), Sarah (1843-1886), Annie (1845-1882) and Elizabeth (1848-1889). William Rowlands, junior, became a teacher before emigrating in 1864 to Australia and then New Zealand. Thomas Rowlands became an officer in the Merchant Navy and was drowned off Lands End.

A.R.B. Thomas was a great grandson of Gwilym Lleyn. His father was William Rowland Thomas (born 1867) son of Ellen (ne Rowlands) and Samuel Thomas (1839-1889).
