Recorded interviews and radio recordings, including memoirs of individuals concerning mining accidents and the effects of lung diseases amongstminers, mine safety, the mining community, the role of women, the impact of mechanisation on the mines, humorous stories and a radio recording entitled TheBig Hewer. The recordings were made 1960-1979 (c) and cover the period 1900-1961 (c) in subject matter.

Administrative / Biographical History
This study was compiled through the South Wales Miners' Library at the University of Wales Swansea during 1975-1976 by Charles Parker, who held a Welsh Tinplate Labour Trust Junior Fellowship.
The study focuses on the recorded memoirs of the 1926 General Strike, and more specifically of a comparative study of the attitudes in South Wales during industrial action in 1926 and 1975-1976. 'The Big Hewer' was a radio ballad produced by Charles Parker, Ewan MacColl and PeggySeeger for the BBC.
Hewer is another name for a collier.
