Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Michael Travers created a collection of books ranging from the fifteenth to the nineteenth centuries. The collection has 2 main themes, which are the impact of the printing press and the development of modern culture. It includes a Polychronicon printed by Caxton and rebound by Douglas Cockerall and a collection of 24 incunabula, most of which are in contemporary binding. The collection of 335 volumes represents a select portion of Michael Travers' library.

Items in the collection may be consulted for the purpose of private study and personal research, within the controlled environment and restrictions of the Library's Special Collections Reading Rooms.
Acquisition Information
In 1978, Michael Travers' widow presented the rare book collection to the Library at the University of Sussex.
