Administrative / Biographical History
Alan Steele (1905-85), bookseller, publisher, worked for the firm of William Jackson Ltd., London, promoting sales of young writers, and developing the publishing side, including the series of Furnival books, 1930-32. In this period the separate publishing firm of Joiner & Steele was established. Steele left in 1934. He joined the printing house of Butler and Tanner in 1935 and eventually became head of it.
