Scope and Content

Comprises records of the coaster ship, the Abel. Material includes: 

  • Articles of agreements, signatures of crew, place of birth, wages etc., 1839-1844
  • Log book of the Abel, 1849-1853

Administrative / Biographical History

The coaster trade ship known as the Abel, based at the port of Beaumaris, Anglesey, sailed from Bangor to London and stopped at various other ports. Most of the crewmen were from the Bangor area; the ships masters over the period from 1839 to 1853 were firstly Thomas Lewis and then William Edwards.

Material is arranged in chronological order and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts .
