Born 25 August 1902, son of John Allen and Mabel Allen (nee Saunders). Educated Rugby School; University College, Oxford; Ripon Hall, Oxford. Liverpool Intercollegiate Secretary of the Student Christian Movement, 1926; Curate, St. Saviour's, Liverpool, 1927; Chaplain, Ripon Hall, Oxford, 1928; Fellow and Chaplain, Lincoln College, Oxford, 1930-35; Union Theological College, Canton, 1935; Deputy Provost, Birmingham Cathedral, 1941; Sec. National Christian Council of China and Chaplain to British embassy, Chungking, 1942-44; Archdeacon of Birmingham, 1944-47; Bishop in Egypt, 1947-52; Principal of Ripon Hall, Oxford, 1952-59; Bishop of Derby, 1959-69. Married, 1932, Madeline Gill. Died 8 November 1982.
