Administrative / Biographical History

William Sewell de Guibe Rankin was born in 1905 and educated at Westminster, and Christ Church, Oxford. In 1928 he entered the Colonial Service as an Education Officer in Nigeria. During the 1950s he worked for UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in Liberia and Ethiopia.
