Administrative / Biographical History
In 1984 fourteen tutors and heads of department at the Polytechnic of NorthLondon (now the University of North London) appealed against a High Courtruling that they should identify eighteen of their students who had defied aHigh Court order not to picket the college.
The picket stemmed from the presence at the college of Patrick Harrington, aNational Front member. Harrington had obtained a court order banningdemonstrations preventing him from attending lectures. The National Frontphotographed people who defied the order and applied to have them imprisoned.Three students who defied the order were identified and brought before thejudge who decided not to imprison them after receiving assurances they wouldnot repeat their contempt of court.
