Letter entitled 'To a young lady on her marriage'

Scope and Content

A detailed 19 page letter, being a bride's instruction. It is unknown who the letter is to or from, although the letter is written by a male friend of the lady's parents. Given the references in the letter to servants and mixing with "men of learning", it is likely the lady to whom the letter is written is of some standing.

Frequent references throughout the letter make it clear the author has limited respect for the female sex. It is however written in a manner that appears to be well meaning and designed to convey what the author feels is useful information to a newly married women he knows well.
