Photographs of Rev. Ronald K. Ross (1898-1980), Unitarian minister of Nottingham,1971-1978

Scope and Content

The collection, originally mounted in two photograph albums, comprises:

  • Colour photographs taken at the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the ordination of Rev.Ross, held at St Andrew's with Castle Gate United Reformed Church. At the end of this sequence arefive photographs that do not seem to relate to the event. 1979 (MS 466/1);
  • Colour photographs taken at the celebration of the 80th birthday party of Rev. Ross, held atGregory Boulevard United Reformed Church. 1978 (MS 466/2);
  • Newspaper cuttings collected in association with the 50th anniversary of the ordination of Rev.Ross. 1979 (MS 466/3);
  • Correspondence from Rev. Ross and Frank Taylor. 1979 (MS 466/4).

Administrative / Biographical History

Ronald Ross was born in 1898. He was ordained in about 1929 and became minister of St Ann's WellRoad Congregational Church in Nottingham where he remained for 41 years. On his retirement in 1970,Rev. Ross became minister emeritus of Castle Gate Congregational Church in Nottingham andsubsequently of St Andrew's with Castle Gate United Reformed Church. An 80th birthday party was heldfor him at Gregory Boulevard United Reformed Church Nottingham and a year later, a family party washeld at St Andrew's with Castle Gate to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Reverend's ordination.Rev. Ross died in 1980.

Details about Rev. Ross's ministry survive in the archives of Castle Gate Congregational Church(CU).

The collection was brought together by Frank Taylor of Mapperley, Nottingham, the executor of theRev. Ross. Taylor was secretary for St Ann's Well Road Congregational Church for 17 years during theministry of Rev. Ross. He apparently held a similar role at St Andrew's with Castle Gate UnitedReformed Church until at least 1979.

The items in the collection have been removed from two self-seal photograph albums forpreservation reasons. The items have been divided by document type into four series.
