Born in 1910; educated at Trent College and Brasenose College, Oxford; called to the Bar, Middle Temple, 1947; joined Reserve of Air Force Officers, 1930, and RAF, 1933; served in France, 1939-1940, and North Africa, 1942-1944, and at Bomber Command, 1944-1945; commanded Shield Force, Far East, 1945; served in Far East, 1945-1948; served in Egypt, 1950-1953; Air Attach, Rome, 1955-1958; Commander, Royal Ceylon Air Force, 1958-1963; AVM, 1959; retired, 1963.
