After choosing Chemistry as his principle subject in his final year, Storrie won first class certificates in both Advanced Inorganic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry. He graduated on 17 November, 1923. After graduating, Storrie lectured within the chemistry department until his retirement in 1966.

During his time at university Storrie began his involvement with the YMCA. He first enrolled in 1920 and twice served as president of the Paisley association. He also held the position of Scottish honorary vice-president and served as both chairman and vice-chairman of the YMCA national council.
