Administrative / Biographical History
Captain Eric Cato Nottingham, MC (1918), was born in 1891. During the First World War he served in Egypt, Gallipoli, France and Flanders (1914-1919) and was mentioned in despatches (1918).
In 1919 Nottingham joined the police force in Nigeria where he later held the posts of acting Assistant Inspector-General (for various periods, 1932-1935), Assistant Commissioner (1936), and acting Deputy Commissioner (for various periods, 1936-1938). In 1938, he was transferred to the Gold Coast as Commissioner of Police.
